1 month 3 weeks ago • 151 viewsIs michie still an active member on this site? If not, I'd like to claim the sports channel instead of creating a new one. There are plenty of channels already out there and the wall of checkboxes is constantly growing, so I'd rather take over an abandoned channel than create a new one. Is that cool with everyone? What do I have to do to make it happen?

2 months 1 week ago • 282 views campionidelmondo aka. CDM aka. Fabio has advanced through the ranks and gotten himself a Ruby. He immediatly started working on a better user-interface for it and the possibility of changing its colour. CDM (his name means "World Champions" for those of you who aren't fluent in guinea) has long been one of the most notable members of the sift. As you may know he designed the GUI of VS4.0 and I'm sure everyone agrees it looks amazing. Prior to this Fabio made numerous scripts concerning the GUI and functionality of the site and he always published them on his blog instead of sifttalk so he never got the *qualities he so rightly deserved. Here are just some of the great scripts he wrote: http://blog.videosift.com/campionidelmondo/GM-Script-Poll-Colors http://blog.videosift.com/campionidelmondo/YouSift http://blog.videosift.com/campionidelmondo/Style-the-Sift http://blog.videosift.com/campionidelmondo/New-GM-Script-Merged-Siftbot-Affirmations http://blog.videosift.com/campionidelmondo/My-New-GM-Script-Invocation-Links And did I mention what a nice guy he is? I'm sure I did, but I'll repeat it; he's always friendly (especially if you praise his raison d'être) and fun to have around. So give it up for the sift codemonkey numero uno (sorry, lucky): Campionidelmondo!...and visit his PQUEUE as well - if you don't he'll make your profile page pink with pictures of violet unicorns EVERYWHERE!

3 months ago • 257 viewsHere's something new, fellas: Damien Walters and Tim "Livewire" Shieff made a freerunning sequence on YouTube that lets the viewer decide which move he/she wants to see next. You get to follow either Damien or Tim and at certain points, you are presented with a choice of two alternative moves, each with its own video. The choice is done via annotations, annoying as they usually are. And everything was filmed rather close-up, so you're up for a treat. Nothing too fancy, but an interesting concept. Tried to sift it, but failed miserably due to mandatory &iv_load_policy=3 which disabled annotations, thus rendering the concept ineffective. Anyway, enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxK-QmM4AM8

3 months 1 week ago • 707 viewsLondon's Trafalgar Square was invaded by competitors all hoping to jump, run and flip their way to victory in the World Freerun Championship. Twenty-seven freerunners from 17 countries battled it out on a specially-designed course, using bars, boxes and poles to dazzle a 7,500-strong crowd. Great Britain's Tim Sheiff was crowned winner of this year's tournament after wowing judges with his gravity-defying moves. Source: Daily Mail You might know Livewire from a few parkour/freerunning/urban gymnastics videos on the sift, especially as the partner in crime of Damien Walters. So I'll use the opportunity for a few shameless self-links: - getting (un-)dressed like a true gymnast - abusing a slackline and a physio ball - demonstrating obscene body strength and control

5 months ago • 669 viewsAs of yesterday- June 18 2009, Formula 1 as we know it no longer exists. What happened is that eight teams, Brawn GP, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, Toyota, BMW Sauber, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso announced their decision to leave and form an independant motorsports body (FOTA)following a four-hour meeting last night ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Honda left months ago due to the unsustainability of maintaining a $500 million budget in these uncertain economic times. This means there is not one single manufacturer left in the FIA camp, only privateers. Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley are of course threatening legal action against the rebels, and have begun construction of a new, more powerful space station to bring the alliance to its knees. The greatest exhibition of speed and engineering on earth is now kaput.

10 months ago • 485 viewsI'm hooked... 36 jumps this year and I can't get enough. Why? Well, the residual effect on my state of mind is long-term. For about an entire week after a jump I feel great. Of course, on the flip side, if I go longer than a month "sans jump" I get a bit edgy. Looking forward to commenting and talking about it. I've gotten lots of friends to go and they've all had a blast. I've got some kick asss videos, too.

1 year 2 months 1 week ago • 769 views That’s not a misprint, this is an actual result from a Olympic pre-qualifying tournament. It was 7-0 after 5 minutes, 31-0 after the first period, 55-0 after two. Down 77-0 with 3 minutes to go, the coach had enough and put in the back-up goaltender, who promptly let in 5 goals on 5 shots in 1:25 of playing time. Amazingly, that is not the worst loss in women’s hockey history, that goes to South Korea over Thailand, 92-0 in 1998. It’s not all bad, Bulgarian goalie Liubomira Shosheva had an amazing 57-save performance, considering, you know, she faced 134 shots in 56 minutes. Can anyone find some highlights?

1 year 3 months 1 week ago • 519 viewsIn case you've been living in a cave for the last week, you might not know that a Hungarian weightlifter, Janos Baranyai, had a terribly painful accident in which his elbow was ... reversed. The video was all over the internet (e.g. http://www.videosift.com/video/Epic-Olympic-OUCH) until about 3pm today when it was removed from ALL internet video sites. ALL OF THEM! You be the judge, but I smell Big Chinese Brother. Those effected include MAJOR news outlets (for example): http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=151313 I imagine they will be even more pissed off than I am for sure. 1) China hides 7-year-old singing sensation from camera due to being too ugly. 2) China uses CGI to augment opening ceremony for international TV audiences. 3) Accident occurs in weightlifting event. All online video record of the event is destroyed in 3 hours. ... ... ... ... Grrr.

1 year 3 months 1 week ago • 973 viewsPeople are raving over the intensity, creativity, symbolism, and general entertainment value of what is the single most watched Olympic opening ceremony (on TV) in history. That's all well and good. It was a sight to see... if you believe what you're seeing. Two new reports have however tarnished the spectacle. First reported is the CGI generated footage of the amazing footprint fireworks, which in reality were in fact real. The footage you saw on your TV was however, fake. This, to many, isn't much of a big deal. The fireworks on site were real even if the TV footage was faked. A FAR more offensive act however, was the lip-synced "Hymn to the Motherland." The girl who won the intense competition for the singing part was apparently to UGLY to be seen on camera, so they used her voice and replaced her with a cuter girl who became an idolic sensation overnight. Beijing Olympic officials apparently did not realize how offensive this sort of action is to a great many people these days. "We're sorry kid, you can sing great... better than anyone your age, but you're too Fugly to be seen in our precious ceremony. What will people think?!" Well ... they'll think you gypped a 7-year-old out of a dream come true to hand the fame to an actress who is prettier. Well, the good news is that the news crept out and now we know who is who. NOW, it's tragic for the actress who will be unfairly viewed as a fraud. She might not even have known it was not her voice everyone was hearing. For the record, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi sang. Cuter actress Lin Miaoke, 9, was seen and got credit. These two screw-ups aside, this was the most spectacular opening ceremony in Olympic history so praise is due in large measure. It is a shame it could not have been entirely authentic however.

1 year 4 months ago • 494 viewsWell, I always find photos of abandoned buildings amazing, all the pieces of life just left around, imagining what they were like in their heyday etc. (Some prime examples of people who turn this into a beautiful art form are Abandoned Places and Opacity) This guy does not have the knack for photography like those people, but the fact that this is the former mansion of Mike Tyson and has a indeterminate recent history, makes it quite fascinating to me, I hope others here will enjoy the photos. Mike Tyson's former mansion Also... it shows: Money can't buy taste.
